The depletion of minerals and vitamins has a devestating impact on our health and immune program…so let’s talk about vitamin A and what it means to have it in ample supply.

Nutritional A was primary discovered back in 1912, by a Polish biochemist named Casimir Funk. He came up using the word vitamine, which was later given the name vitamin. Funk was the primary to discover vitamins as we know them today, while supplement A was actually the 1st one discovered, hence the letter “Aâ€

An easy and quick way to lower cholesterol is whole grain cereal. My cholesterol was below 200 since I started checking my levels more than fifteen years ago. Three times a year I get a blood test and recently my tests showed a cholesterol reading of 210. The test was also sent to my doctor and sure enough his nurse called and said they wanted to talk to me about lowering my cholesterol with drugs. No thank you I said I will .lower cholesterol naturally.

In the fifteen years mentioned above my diet has steadily improved to where I was almost a vegetarian. So I figured there was something missing in my diet. My research showed that whole grains can lower cholesterol and keep them at acceptable levels. My research also showed that whole grains not only helped cholesterol but many other things as well.

I have never been a regular cereal eater let alone oatmeal. It was not that I did not like it but more old breakfast habits of eggs and toast were more in my mind. You know the saying, out of sight out of mind.

The plan that I devised was to eat a whole grain cereal at least three times a week. At the same time I quit eating meat entirely and what little processed food I was consuming too. I started with organic steel cut oats the highest nutrient value oatmeal available. After about a month of oatmeal three times a week I then substituted Eight Grain from Red Mill once a week for variety.

After four short months I did a new blood test and low and behold my cholesterol had dropped 50 points to 160. In addition my triglycerides went lower by 44 points. Good cholesterol HDL rose slightly and the bad cholesterol LDL dropped 32 points. All in all very good since I took no drugs with side effects and the cost was no more maybe less than before. Also I put honey on the cereal and it alone is a very potent nutrient. I also used the cereal as an antioxidant carrier. I added such powerful antioxidants as cinnamon, blue berry powder, goji berry extract and acai flakes. There is nothing like using natural remedies to cure a medical condition.

High blood pressure is a serious condition. It brings along numerous health risks, some of which can be life threatening. But, you don’t have to deal with these numerous health hazards as you can avoid high blood pressure in the 1st place. These are some tips that will help you with the same.

If you are suffering from high blood pressure, it is commended to increase the intake of whole grains in your diet. Some good options in this context are barley, oats, rye and several others whole grains. These whole grains are known to have difficult carbohydrates. They play a very vital role in keeping a tab on the rising insulin levels and also aids in losing pounds. As the weight remains in hand, the problem of high blood pressure also comes in hand.

Start by limiting your calorie intake. Cut back on your junk food consumption. Instead, eat more of fresh vegetables and fruit. Couple this with limited exercise like half an hour of brisk walking and you are certain to lose weight.

Another nice option in this direction is lean meat. Lean meats are deprived of parts like lard or fat, which are known to start the blood pressure levels to a great extent. Lean meat usually consists of fish, lean pork and poultry. Some other things that can be called lean meat are ostrich meat and buffalo meat. However, their consumption must be restricted to a moderate level.

To keep the blood pressure levels in check, it is essential that you keep distance from some of the food items too. One such thing is alcohol. It has been noted that people, who are heavy drinkers, are more subject to the issue of raised blood pressure. The intake of alcohol is understood to rupture the walls of the blood vessels. This in turn paves way To keep the blood pressure problems. Experts are persuaded that alcohol consumption must be proscribed to the maximum possible level. If at all thing is made, it shouldn’t pass beyond one drink for girls and two drinks for men.

Exercise is another sure shot measure to take blood pressure miles away from you. Exercise makes sure that there is a smooth flow of blood to all the parts of the body and that too without putting any strain on the heart to function optimally. Exercise doesn’t mean that you necessarily need to go to gymnasium. You can always consider selecting physical activities like skipping, walking, dancing, jumping and plenty more to make up for your exercise routine.

Give up smoking. Smoking is known to extend blood pressure while also increasing your chances of developing a heart stroke. Kick the butt straight away and you will be able to bring your blood pressure levels in control. If you find it hard to quit smoking, you may seek the help of various smoking cessation aids such as smoking sprays, nicotine gums and such like.

As an effect the circulatory system has to undergo a lot of pressure to promise the smooth blood flow. Limit the intake of such fats. On the against this increase the consumption of unsaturated fats like wafers, chips, nachos and lots more.

Stop raised blood pressure because prevention is always better than cure.

Sports nutrition is a topic that is complex, and even professional nutritionists have differing opinions on what is the best course of nutrition for an athlete. As in any area of training, people have pet theories upon which they design entire athletic regimens. However, there are some basics that are intractable. First, hydration is key.

Hydration is incredibly important. Many health professionals say that many, if not most, people live in a constant state of dehydration. Not very many people actually consume as much water as they need. It isn’t necessary to drink hundreds of ounces of water per day, but it is important to get the necessary levels to maintain basic health. Being mindful of such things as the importance of not confusing thirst with hunger can also be very helpful in avoiding a constant state of partial dehydration.

Athletes must be especially mindful of proper hydration. Sweat loss through exertion requires that athletes hydrate in order to keep everything running in top form. Water is needed in the body to assist in transportation of nutrients and assist in waste elimination from the body. Water lubricates joints and tissues, and keeps body temperature under control. Water also aids the body to digest foods. You can tell that you’re adequately hydrated if you produce a goodly amount of light-colored, diluted urine. Watch for deep colored urine as a danger sign of not enough water.

As for nutrition, getting a proper balance of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins is key to optimal sports performance. Protein facilitates the repair of damaged muscles and helps in building new muscles. Carbohydrates are in charge of causing muscles to contract. One should not necessarily go high-protein or high-carbohydrate when devising a strategy for nutrition. Balance is the most important aspect of creating a workable plan. By understanding the consequences of the diet you choose, you will learn much more about your own physiology. One example is that choosing a high-protein diet can make you more susceptible to dehydration.

Athletes that are vegetarians need to be very careful about designing their eating plan. Vegetarians are in danger of low protein intake, so making sure they’re taking in enough is vital. It’s also a good idea to get regular testing to determine whether all nutritional needs are being met. Female athletes are susceptible to iron deficiency, for example. In addition, many are deficient in such vitamins as the B varieties, as well as all-important vitamin D.

Once again the lab rat comes to the humans rescue. In a recent study the technicians fed their lab rats, some of which were obese, a typical western diet. They then divided the rats into two groups. The lucky one were fed tart cherry powder as 1% of their diet while the other group got no cherry powder.

At the end of the twelve week study the tart cherry eaters had 14% less body fat than the control group. Now that is easy weight loss, On top of that the cherry eaters total cholesterol was down 11%. In human terms that is dropping total cholesterol from 220 to 195. No human studies have yet been done.

As an added bonus the tart cherry extract takers also reduced two known markers for inflammation. To much abdominal fat produces both of these markers and these markers are linked to heart disease. All of this from a common fruit extract.

In 1999 the prestigious American Chemical Society published a report that tart cherries may relieve pain better than aspirin, NASD drugs and the side effect filled drugs such as the cox 2 inhibiting drugs like Vioxx. This was accomplished by eating 20 tart cherries daily. This amount was shown to reduce inflammation as well as all the drugs mentioned above.

All foods which are highly colorful like tart cherries have compounds call anthocyanins. These compounds are 10 times more powerful in reducing inflammation than aspirin. These compounds can protect you against the typical western diet. These compounds are bioflavonoids which are potent antioxidants some of the most potent in the fruit kingdom.

Your best bet for reducing cholesterol naturally is a diet based on fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes and whole grains. Reduce your intake of processed foods and meats of all kinds and watch your cholesterol drop to the normal range.

Those people eating flax seed saw significant reductions of -17% in total cholesterol,a 3.9% reduction in LDL-cholesterol, a reduction of 36% in their triglyceride reading which is very significant and the ratio of total cholesterol/HDL-cholesterol down -33.5% These were seen in the diet+flax group, compared to baseline. Similar reductions were seen in those taking the statin. Benefits did not significantly differ between the two groups.

When viewing this study it is really important to note that if you can get the same results from food why would anyone take drugs. However many millions of people are doing just that. Drugs have side effects statins have side effects which can be fatal. Other side effects are muscle pain and weakness, neuropathy and memory loss to name a few. When food will do the trick are drugs worth it?

Flax seed is available at most bulk food areas of your supermarket or health food store.

There are many ways to lower cholesterol with diet. There are also many specific foods which tend to lower cholesterol with their specific nutrients. However, even foods like oatmeal, oat bran, almonds and the like are good and do lower cholesterol but the very best protection against high cholesterol is your overall diet.

A diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains over time will not only lower your cholesterol but will protect you against every disease including heart disease, cancer and stroke. A vegetarian diet or as close as you can come has been shown to lower cholesterol substantially in most people. This diet will also help you eliminate other disease risks as well.

As hard as it is to want to do those people who have stopped eating meat, chicken and fish can see results in lower cholesterol in just weeks. The saturated fat in meat builds cholesterol and stops up your blood vessels. In addition to no meat you should also stop eating processed foods of all types for it is here that trans fats reside. Trans fats are the single most dangerous type of fat. They not only cause high cholesterol but are responsible for raising LDL (bad) and lowering HDL (good).

It has been proven over and over that vegetarians live longer and healthier lives. A vegetarian diet is not an easy diet to move to, especially if you have eaten meat and processed foods for a long time. But I am here to tell you it can be done and you will have better health for a longer time.

Recently a new study that expands on the heart-healthy potential of soy showed that it reduces cholesterol in people with Type 2 diabetes.

Consumption of 40 grams of soy protein isolates (SPI) per day for 57 days resulted in significant reductions in both LDL cholesterol and the ratio of LDL to HDL cholesterol, compared to consumption of the same dose of milk protein, according to results published in the Journal of Nutrition.

“This study provides evidence for soy as a dietary preventive strategy for adults with type 2 diabetes to reduce their cardiovascular disease risk and, in so doing, improve their quality, and possibly length, of life,” wrote the researchers, led by Alison Duncan from the University of Guelph, Guelph, ON, Canada.

The association between soy protein and blood lipid levels led the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve a cardiovascular disease (CVD) reduction claim for soybean protein in 1999.

“This study therefore adds to the literature through its particular emphasis on prevention by studying adults with type 2 diabetes who are free of diabetic complications and not taking glycemic or lipid-lowering medications,” wrote Duncan and her co-workers.

The researchers recruited 29 type 2 diabetics for their double-blind, randomized, crossover, placebo-controlled intervention study. The participants were assigned to consume a daily dose of soy protein isolate, which also contains 80 mg of aglycone isoflavones, or milk protein isolate for 57 days. At the end of the intervention they underwent a 28-day washout period prior to being crossed over to the other intervention.

According to their findings, the soy protein intervention was associated with a significant reduction in LDL cholesterol levels of a 0.17 mmol/l, a reduction in the ratio of LDL to HDL cholesterol of 0.03 points and drops in the ratio of apolipoprotein B:apolipoprotein A-I, compared to the milk protein intervention.

Apolipoprotein B is the main apolipoprotein of LDL cholesterol and is responsible for the transport of cholesterol to tissues. In high concentrations it has been linked to plaque formation in the blood vessels, although the mechanism behind this is not clear.

“The inclusion of apolipoproteins in future soy intervention studies is highly warranted; their relevance to CVD risk is well established and there is a particular emphasis on the apolipoprotein B:apolipoprotein A-I ratio as highly predictive in the evaluation of cardiac risk,” wrote the researchers.

The ratio of total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol, reported to be the most specific lipid risk factor for CVD, was not affected by the intervention, they added. No changes in HDL cholesterol were noted.

“These data demonstrate that consumption of soy protein can modulate some serum lipids in a direction beneficial for CVD risk in adults with type 2 diabetes,” wrote the researchers.
